HARTSYARD

Parking is always a test of patience when trying to find a spot around Newtown as well as Enmore but lucky I was with one of the most patient people I know, Christine! We drove in and out of almost every street and dead end to find parking, almost 45 minutes later we found one on Marion Street and legged the rest to find a line into Hartsyard. The wait wasn't bad at all, we were third in line and in no time we were seated and handed a menu.

One thing that almost makes you question if you are in the right restaurant is the music.
Standing outside the restaurant you can't hear the music but you would be excused for judging it to be a soft background music sort of place, with the decor and the amount of people inside one tiny space. But like me, you would be dead wrong. The music is extremely loud and old school Hip-Hop and Rap. Although I have no complaints here because I personally love the Hip-Hop genre but the volume was very questionable, especially if I have to yell incessantly for a conversation with the person you are squished right next to.

Oyster Po' Boy - $18.00
English muffin, Old Bay mayo, coleslaw

So yes I've had a lobster roll before but this was a new experience in having an Oyster roll.  Did I like it? Yes, I enjoyed the flavor of the battered and fried oyster because the Oyster still kept its notable flavor and went very well with the coleslaw salad. The english muffin was a good choice because too great of a serving would have made it too much to have in a sitting.

Duck Rillettes - $33.00
Blood orange, dried olive, turnip, rye, foie gras

I'm not too sure about this dish because I felt that not everything was balanced well together. The relationship of the flavors fought against each other in my mouth creating a contrasting and clashing taste. Although I didn't enjoy the flavor palette the dish was very enlightening with its different textures and the techniques were very well executed for what they were aiming to achieve.

Fried Chicken - $29.00
Buttermilk biscuit, low country sausage gravy

First off, it is a bit more on the pricier side for fried chicken and I can't really say that it was sensationally amazing and bursting with flavors. It was good with an excellent batter with well balanced seasoning. The inside of the chicken was beautifully cooked leaving the chicken tender and soft. One thing I did not like about this dish was the biscuit because it was awfully dense like a scone and felt soggy from gravy.

HY Soft Serve - $14.00

Friday 5th September - Flavour of the week: Sticky Date Pudding Soft Serve.
caramelized walnuts, milk choc dip, served on a bed of sticky date pudding and drizzled with butterscotch sauce.

Mind blowingly beautiful! I could have this everyday and still want more. The sticky date flavour chioce is one of my all time favorite and the soft serve was pretty much perfect. The ice cream had an amazing vanilla bean flavor and it was clear that they didn't hold back due to the vanilla pods within the ice cream. The outside hardened chocolate coating held caramelized walnuts which lay invitingly in a bed of soft sticky date pudding and was drizzled with butterscotch sauce. This was the highlight of my night.

Milk & Honey - $18.00
Honeycomb, yoghurt, pine nut, raspberry

This was such an interesting dessert, points given for something different. My taste buds kept wanting more from the sweet and sour flavors of the yoghurt and raspberries. I loved the textures from the honeycomb and pine nuts which gave it excellent crunchy and chewy textures. The goats milk yoghurt was rather sour and strong on its own, but was nice when coupled with the honey gelato or the crumble on the side. The presentation was appetizing although I wanted a larger scoop of the gelato and simple quinelle of the yoghurt would suffice. The deconstructed plating style made it look a little fancier than I am usually used to but it brought about a nice little contrast with lyrics of Easy E in the background.

Definitely worth the visit and highly recommended.
