Happy Birthday Andrew!!!
Tonight really did start off with it's fair share of issues. The drive into the city with Christine was unsurprisingly a hilarious adventure with many wrong but oh so right turns on the highway, which got us on top of the Harbor bridge, not once but twice. You could be forgiven for thinking that this is where the headaches stopped. Nope, while parking the car we tried to find the elevators from the car park of Governor Phillip Tower and found ourselves stuck and locked in the stair cases and all doors locked on all levels. Thank god for the birthday boy who came to the rescue and got the building security to open the door but only came to the rescue about 45 minutes later because he checked all the fire doors in the building and ours just had to be the last one to be checked.
Hungry and humiliated we laughed it off and walked to our late dinner reservations.
This was my first time dinning at Rockpool Bar & grill, one of Neil Perry's restaurants. This venue is a sight for sore eyes. Dim elegant lighting and eight grand pillars in the center of the building with an unbelievably high ceiling. This is enough to make you shiver with excitement. We arrived at the reception desk and followed our waitress to our table where we sat in a four seater square table. Started with the menu and sometime later all meals and sides were finally decided and ordered.
Our mains were to die for, I ordered Redgate Farm Partridge with Roasted Figs and Grilled Speck, this dish was absolutely perfect. The Partridge was soft with a beautiful grilled flavour that runs through the meat. The roasted figs complemented the Partridge by infusing a sweet flavours within the meat.
An up side with dining with others is the sharing and trading of different foods. We all had a piece of each others mains. Christine's chops were ridiculously flavorful and juicy they were just so right. This was my first time trying 9+ Wagyū steaks and it's surprisingly (and I guess justifiably) incredibly tender. The sides should have did what sides are supposed to do and that is to complement the mains. The sauteed mix mushrooms were absolutely juicy and packed with flavours, however on the flipside, I found the other two sides lacking. The hot potato chips looked dry and tasted stale and some were even rather unfortunately undercooked in the inside. The Onion rings dissapointingly were not undercooked but rather overcooked. They were incredibly crunchy with the onion inside being burnt and the batter was too salty. They are the only negative comments I have from our two hats fine dinning experience. Definitely a thumbs up with a recommendation.
