CABRAMATTA MOON FESTIVAL 2014

Every day seems like a festival in Cabramatta with crowds of people moving around, but today was a little different due to the annual celebration of the Moon Festival. Each year the Moon festival gathers hundreds and thousands of people from different walks of life into a hub of delicious and vibrant multiculturalism.

Last Sunday Christine and I became a part of the Moon Festival and on the day there were endless stalls to visit.  Many Vendors sold sells Chinese glowing lanterns, toys, jewellery but 80% of the festival was about the various food stalls. Live entertainment, headlined by X Factor contestant Dani Im was also a major part of the day.

As soon as Christine saw the Dippin Dots truck she became so excited and so we marched over and ordered two different flavors, Watermelon and Bubblegum. At first sight it reminds you of Willy Wonka Nerds, but they are these tiny frozen ice cream dots that come in six different flavors.

Left:  Watermelon Dippin Dots - $3.00

The texture also reminds you of the Nerds. The Watermelon flavour was sightly on the sour side and the aroma of Watermelon candy but it was so good.

Right: Bubble Gum Dippin Dots - $3.00

The Bubblegum was just as delightful as the Watermelon. The flavor was more milky and  smooth and tasted like the PaddlePop Bubblegum icecream.

Spicy Beef Jerky - 6 for $20

I've never really been a jerky fan until recently and for the first time I was excited in lining up to buy some beef jerky. The stall sold pre-packed jerky as well as fresh jerky on the day.
The fresh jerky was incredibly soft but still had the desirable chewiness.

Taiwanese chicken nuggets - $6.00

I've never had Taiwanese chicken nuggets before and all I can say is that I've been missing out. It was spicy and very well balanced with seasonings. The fried goodness had a slight crunch on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside.

Out of all the food stalls, The Takoyaki stand was by far the busiest and unfortunately had the longest lines. It was a battle to order and a even bigger battle to collect food. Since Christine and I are massive fans of Takoyaki balls we decided to suck it up and stand in line.

Takoyaki Octopus balls - $8.00

Yay! After a solid 35 minutes of waiting in line, we finally had our Takoyaki balls. The balls we tragically rushed and were slightly under cooked. It was easily evident due to the balls almost looking flat rather than round and the batter inside was still slightly runny. Although the batter was under cooked it was still so tasty and delicious.

A staple at most events with food stalls, thankfully the Churros Stand was right next to the Takoyaki stall so Christine and I could listen to our numbers when called.
This was another very popular vendor which people lined up for.

Churros - $18.00
Six Churros sticks, Bulgarian Chocolate and Caramel dipping Sauce

Churros satisfaction! They were made on the spot so they were incredibly fresh.
Crunchy on the outside and slightly doughy in the inside. Dipped with chocolate and caramel, it was the perfect ending to our Moon Fest. food adventures.

Since this was my first year attending the Moon festival, I didn't know that the rides took up almost two street in from Cabramatta Station. The streets were alive and fills with children as well as adults lining up for rides and games.
