GIGINO

Last minute dinner plans landed us at Gigino's in Fairfield West. This corner beauty is a delightful pop of surprise for the area. Fairfield West has always felt like an in-between area to get to food zones like the center of Fairfield, Canley Heights and Cabramatta. Now there's finally something, A\although Gigino's probably been open for a little over a year or so. Most nights when we drive past there's always people waiting out front and thankfully this time we came early and there was no lines.

One thing that's very noticeable upon entrance is the size of the place. Its very small but the layout of the furnishings allows enough space to move around although I'm not quite sure for the dinner peak hours, but from today's experience it seemed good.

The menu was surprisingly disappointing, it seemed almost limited and pasta dishes are only served on Thursday and throught the week Pizza's and salads are available. I would have thought that all Italian places always had pizza's and pasta's available on the menus.    

Capricciosa - $19.00

Pomodoro, mozzarella, artichokes, anchovies, olives, capers, oregano

The Pizza filled the air with wonderful fresh wood fired aroma. We all pulled a slice each and the cheese was a dream of molten lava that stretched endlessly. I can say without a doubt that I haven't had a pizza like this for awhile. It's base was el perfecto, light, crisp and the crust! The tomato base was definitely bursting with flavor which came through. I haven't always been a fan of anchovies but boy were they good in this pizza! Everything about this pizza was so well balanced and addictive.

Terroni - 13.00

Salad of tomato, olives, cucumber, carrots, mozzarella & icebery lettuce served in a foccacia bowl

This is one big salad! It's all juicy garden vegetables combined with mozzarella tossed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar housed in a massive foccacia bread. Since the salad was bursting with freshness was super crunchy and very flavorful but above all the bread was crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. It soaked the juiced from the salad. A salad this size has to be shared.
