A hike isn't usually my ideal activity on my days off but for awhile I kept seeing constant uploads of some beautiful waterfalls with the hashtag #wentworthfalls and it just so happened that it's within visiting reach. Its probably an hour and half from Parramatta depending on traffic. Jump on the M4 and drive towards Blue Mountains, Katoomba and you'll reach Wentworth Falls. Yes this is a food dedicated post but first the hike!
I can't remember the last time I went for a hike but that probably because I've never been on one. Thankfully there's always a first time for everything. We headed out nice and early in the morning to avoid the traffic and also to make sure we'd finish our hike from start to finish, which we did! yay! The greenery, terrain, man made footpaths and waterfalls were beautiful and just to think this is within Sydney for everyone to experience is insane. There were so many waterfalls to see and take photos off, some you could probably bathe under and there was another that had a rock pool underneath which would be amazing to swim in.
It probably took us under two hours to reach the end of the hike and this involved consistent stopping to take photos. At the end of the hike sat a cosy cabin which inside housed a cafe with one a panoramic glass window which out looked the mountain. A welcoming fireplace was lit to warmth the cafe and a light scent of camp fire circulated the room. The interior inside felt grand with high exposed wooden ceiling and brick walls with large landscape paintings. We took cover here and had lunch while the rain decided to finally fall.
Turkey - $10.00
mixed leaf, sage stuffing, tomato & cranberry sauce
The menu was surprisingly vast which ranged from sandwiches, pasta dishes and beef roast with vegetables. After our hike we weren't exactly starving but hungry enough to eat. Sandwiches aren't usually my first choice, It was either this or a full meal so sandwich it was. Oh boy it was good! Thick cut light Rye bread which housed mixed leave, turkey, sage stuffing, tomato and cranberry sauce.
Smoked Salmon - $12.00
with mixed leaf, baby capers, Spanish onion & horseradish mayo
This sandwich could do no wrong, there's nothing like a two handed sandwich that you need to try and bite into. A Smoked Salmon sandwich with a here and there kick of baby capers, mixed leaves, spanish onions with a delightful creamy horseradish mayo topper.
Iced tea - $4.50
with rose water & lemon
This serving of Lemon ice tea revolutionised the way I now drink Lemon ice tea. A small drop of Rose water completely transform the flavoring, making it a deep golden delight.
