RHAPSODY OF THE SEA DINNER #3

CHEF'S TABLE

On the first day of our cruise one of the many first things to come at you apart from the beauty of the interior of the ship was the amount of people trying to sell you dinner packages. We were bombarded with brochures and informations about the different on board restaurants. The more restaurants you choose the higher the discount. Since I'm a sucker for food we had decided on going with three restaurants and three days later we received an invitation for the chef's table. It felt so exciting seeing our invitation jammed against our room number and opening our official invitation.

Mocktail: Pineapple Juice, cranberry juice with a dash of soda water  and Cherry
For those non alcoholics, mocktails were offered. The drinks were so good and incredibly refreshing and very tropical. A mixture of Pineapple juice, Cranberry juice, soda and a floating cherry.
Nothing screams fancy schmancy like a elegantly set out dinning room, I can't say I've ever had dinner like this before. six different wine glasses which I unfortunately didn't use, a name card each and an impressive menu which inside had an illustration of our sitting arrangements with our names on the sittings. It was definitely fancy.
This has to be one of the best presentation and service I have ever received. Everything was on point with every details. On the night all three men came out to greet and meet us all. The Three were (Left to Right) Clayton the head waiter, Julius our chef and  the manager.
I'm not sure if these were your average bread rolls or I was just damn hungry  but that night they tasted incredible. The rolls that resembled a croissant were so good, they had sea salt on top which really enhanced the creaminess of the butter with a hint of saltiness.
Kim Crawford, Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough, New Zealand
Confit of Atlantic Salmon
With Pea puree, paoched lobster tail with shellfish oil, fresh fennel and baby lettuces salad, Snow peas pods
First off O.M.G! I've never had seafood like this ever and let me just say how W.O.W. Everything was bursting with freshness from the seafood and vegetables. I couldn't believe how the lobster tail was so beautifully poached and it was mighty soft. The same could be easily said about the Salmon. It feel apart effortlessly with a fork. The fresh  fennel salad was so delicately sliced it was paper thin and tasted heavenly with the pea puree.
Penfolds - Chardonnay
Koogunga Hills, South Australia
Celeriac Cream and double Duck Consomme
With toasted cheese sandwich
The two consomme were absolutely spectacular, The flavors were so intense and flavorful.  The Celeriac cream was so delightful with its creamy and velvety texture. The second consomme was the duck which was just mind blowing! Its was just like eating the actual duck meat but in a liquid form. It was squeezing a duck for its broth! Words fail to describe the duck consomme.

Belle Glois pinot Noir blanco Rose
Sonoma Coast, California
Seared divers Scallops
On a brown butter hollandaise, fried capers and parsley puree
The Scallops was the first for our mains and it was aesthetically pleasing like an ocean garden. The scallops were juicy and soft. The flow of this dish balanced very well with the soft flavors of the vegetables teamed with the creamy buttery hollandaise and the parsley puree. The additions of fried capers gave the dish an amazing peppery taste which I adored.
Oberon - Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, California
Slow roasted Veal tenderloin
Artichoke puree, miniature fondant potatoes, baby vegetables
Our second main was the roasted veal. Oh boy this was two pieces of meat I savoured. It was heavenly soft and tender which cut like butter. There's nothing on earth like a perfectly cooked and succulent piece of meat to put you into heaven. The slow roasted tenderloin with the added small and delightful sculptured vegetables was an amazing dish.
Chilled Baileys coffee liqueur
Ireland

Creamy Vanilla Cheesecake
Fresh mix berries jam sauce

Finally onto dessert, This cheesecake was probably the best cheesecake I've had in a long while. It was smooth and extremely creamy with visible vanilla bean seeds. The mixed berries jam was excellent with the cheesecake, it added a very fruity touch to the creamy cheesecake. The jam was silky which I didn't excepted it also wasn't over the top sweet. After five course meal and almost four hours later we we're all extremely full and definitely very satisfied with our meals.

After the dinner was finished the Chef delivered a complimentary plate of strawberry coated chocolates, biscuits and small slices.
