RHAPSODY OF THE SEA DINNER #7

Today was another busy day on the same island as Suva but on the opposite side to a town called Latouka. Just like usual we slept in till 9 am and allowed the early birds to rush off the ship first at 7 am when we landed on port. We slowly got dressed, packed our bag for the day and headed to the breakfast buffet then finally headed downk into port of Latouka.
Thankfully we found a bargin with one of the other tour stalls which would only cost us $15 Australian each into four different locations and we would also have to pay our own entry fee if we wanted to do any activities on the sites we stopped on which seemed fair.

First stop was the Gardens of the sleeping Giants where jumped off to walk around in the gardens and to view the rock formations on top of the mountains of the sleeping giant. We were led to believe it would be for free but there was a fee of $16 to view the orchards that they kept pushing for us to see. We skipped the pricey garden and walked on top of a very steep hill to take photos of the sleeping giant and took photos of one another with the beautiful mountains behind us. The price was for free!

Second stop was the Mud baths! I was specially excited for this one! We paid only $20 Fijian dollars each with a group of seven people. We all got changed and in turn we covered ourselves in mud that was provided. After we were done covering ourselves, we had to wait until the mud dried out to take full benefits of the glorious mud. While we waited we walked around the market stalls that were in the facilities that sold souvenirs. We only looked of course considering we were covered in mud and everything was over priced. Once finally dried, we were led into the actual mud bath where the water was very dark and muddy and surprisingly the water was very warm. We tried our best to wash off all the mud which presented itself to be a bit of a challenge. Once we were done the lady led let us to the hot spring bath where we had our second wash. The water was in a dug out pool where the natural hot spring surfaced. We swam around and enjoyed it until we had to walk over to the third and final bath which was in proper pool which was again filled with the natural hot spring water which this time felt like 100 degrees. I didn't stay in the water for more than two minutes, it felt like I was cooking slowly and painfully. Our skin felt amazingly soft with a glow!

Third stop was the Nadi shops where we walked into souvenir stores again and just like other actual stores the prices very beyond high. We expected markets not stores! I manage to find another fridge magnet for my collection as my souvenir and that was pretty much it for my shopping for the day!

Last stop was one of the beaches which I can't remember the name. My better half  join the local boys playing rugby on the beach while I happily swam and collected shells.
Our three hour trip that coast us $15 each turned out to be a five hours tour was absolutely amazing and the people that were in our tour were excellent company that made our day! By the time dinner rolled around the corner we were starving!

Crab cake
meaty crab cake, corn and peppers and snow peas slaw with basil aioli
The crab cakes were the first thing that I spotted on the menu and they were exactly what I ordered. The crab cake that arrived was delicious, it was a good size and very well seasoned. It had a good bite of heat at the tip of my tongue. The pea slaw mellowed out the zing from the bite of the spices. The basil aioli went very nicely with the crab cake allowing the crab flavor to be the hero of the dish.

Orecchiette pasta
short rib ragu with shredded Parmesan cheese
There's nothing like a good pasta and unfortunately this wasn't one of them! I should have known better than to ignore the voice in my head and should have done with the fish! There was nothing thrilling about the Orecchiette pasta, it had a soapy after taste and it was very much under cooked! It definitely wasn't Al dente, just under cooked. I'm not too sure if they didn't make enough beef or sauce for the pasta but it seriously lacked everything including taste. Thankfully we were provided salt on the table.

Strawberry Trifle
Angel cake, cinnamon yogurt and fresh strawberries
Tonight's dessert menu didn't seem to be the greatest but one did stand out from the rest which was the strawberry trifle. It was light and fresh although I thought that the Angel cake felt a little depleted in texture and taste but thankfully the cinnamon yogurt and fresh strawberries
